We generally consider prose fiction of any genre, style, or subject. Generally, we like submissions up to 7,500 words. However, if your story is truly excellent but lands somewhere above 7,500, we'll still be excited to read it.

There is a small reading fee for general F(r)iction submissions ($5), but authors accepted will be awarded payment for their work. F(r)iction pays contributors $10 per final printed page, plus a free contributor's copy.

We strongly recommend checking out a past issue of F(r)iction before submitting to get an idea of our general publishing aesthetic. You can do this at the TBL Store.

We generally consider poetry of any style or subject. Generally, we like our poetry submissions to stay under three pages per poem. However, if your work is truly excellent but extends a bit past the three-page mark, we'll still be excited to read it. You may submit up to five poems per submission. Entries with more than five poems will not be considered.

As part of our mission to publish experimental, nontraditional, and boundary-pushing literature, F(r)iction includes graphic stories or comics in every issue. We are looking for complete stories, but we are willing to consider excerpts from longer graphic works if they contain a more-or-less complete story arc. Submissions may be up to 35 printed pages and may be either color or black-and-white.

Please include BOTH author and artist information in your cover letter, if applicable. PDF files are preferred. Contact us with any questions.

Instead of paying the traditional reading fee, this option allows you to purchase a copy of F(r)iction. As thanks for purchasing a physical copy of the publication, you may submit as many works as you would like. So if you have multiple short stories or flash fictions you'd like to have considered for publication, you may submit them all through this option. All submissions should follow the standard guidelines.

All submissions are given equal consideration regardless of the submission form chosen. An issue of F(r)iction will be mailed to you immediately after we receive your submission.
